It would be really helpful if we could get the amount of a company's unfunded pension liability. Often this figure is included on the balance sheet, so it's likely that Compustat has this information.

Our calculation of Enterprise Value really isn't complete without this.

These liabilities are a growing problem for many companies. Most pension plans assume rates of return that are insanely unrealistic in a world where treasuries yield 2%. And I don't mean they're off by couple hundred basis points, which is a lot. I mean they're off by twice that in many cases. Andy Kessler has a good article in WSJ on this.
